This book was originally published in 1942, during World War II, when living spare was a national mission.  Today the economy has caused many to adopt a similar approach to daily life. The big three, food, clothing and shelter, still use most of one's income and this book stretches the clothing budget impressively.  It covers mending, applying patches, restyling garments for current styles, making accessories to change a look (including hats), knitting and crocheting new trims and closures, re-cutting menswear for its great fabrics -- with pattern layouts! -- all for women's and children's clothing, plus some sewing basics.  It is a great book for the Mom world -- keeps everyone looking good -- and it has many ideas in it for micro-businesses, those Etsy type income streams.  It is practical, fosters sustainability and gets you thinking about all the things you could and should do to save a bit of money and materials!
